Ides of March

Dear Community!

Some days ago a discussion was started with the questions why we choose to hold a PvP event in Last Chaos in honor to the Ides of March.

Some of you may not know what makes today so special and the event so fitting. ;)

The Ides were special days in the Roman calendar which marked the middle of a month. In the month Martius (March), Maius (May), Quintilis (July) and October the ides were falling on the 15th day.

The most famous ides were the ides of March, which are marking the assassination of Gaius Julius Caesar. 44 BC Caesar was stabbed by around 20 members of the roman senate, which caused the empire to suffer from 14 years of civil war and influenced it deeply.

One day before the assassination took place, according to Plutarch, Titus Vestricius Spurinna did warn Caesar with the words „Cave Idus Martias“ (eng.: beware of the ides of March) of the coming calamity – unfortunately without success.

Equally tragic was the role of Marcus Iunius Brutus a close confident of Caesar, who was part of the conspiracy of murder. Brutus and the senate feared of losing their position of power since Caesar claimed his despotism of lifetime. It’s still not certain if Caesar really said the words “Et tu Brute?” (You too, Brutus?) with his last breath before dying.

Therefore – beware of the ides of March and the times of calamity and treason!
